MURAL
Isla Urbana is an organisation dedicated to designing and installing rain water harvesting systems in Mexico’s communities, where people do not have access to water.
They also educate people of these communities to use water in a sustainable matter and try to activate youngsters in the communities throught different activities. Often the problem in the poorer communities is the lack of activities for the younger generations due to minimal or non-existent fundings from the government.
During the spring in 2017, a class of students from United states of America arrived to Mexico City to see how Isla Urbana works. This excursion took place in outskirt of Mexico City. We visited some of the households that Isla Urbana had already installed a rain water harvesting system to hear how the system was working. The families would be able to capture enough water reservs for half a year, just from rain water alone.
As a part of the excursion, Isla Urbana had planned an activity which was open for anyone to attend. The mission was to paint a mural to bring some color to the surroundings. The design director of Isla Urbana, Renata Fenton, is behind the design of the mural wall.
